We Offer You “Real Social Change”

Welcome to the Real Social Change Blog, the blog for Icon Connects, LLC, a community-based staffing, workforce development, and DEI advocacy company.

Hello, I’m Johnicon George Sr., owner of Icon Connects, LLC. As a multifaceted Business Owner, Activist, Advocate, and Community Organizer, I have spent much of my life building stronger communities through mobilizing, strategic connections, and raising awareness of the challenges faced by those representing our disadvantaged and underrepresented populations.

As President of the Tri-City NAACP from 2017 - 2022, I met with individuals suffering critical injustices in Solano County. Hearing their horrific stories and fighting for a just resolution often compromised my mental and emotional health.

However, not being one to give up, I thought about how we can reimagine social justice in our community in 2023. How can we communicate a message of creating an inclusive environment to employers, community leaders, and those interested in social justice issues?

With the triple pandemic upon us, the Civil Awakening, and the Social Justice Movement of 2020, we remain in a time of great change regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. These life-changing events and thinking about reimagining social justice led me to launch the Real Social Change Blog.

I’m sure many of you already have some knowledge about how vital Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is in organizations. I’ve found that while many of our community members genuinely want change, they simply don’t know where to start.

In monthly blogs, I will share deeper aspects of DEI that will also include defining the concept, its relevance, the roots of DEI, and its significance to specific populations that have been left behind. I will share other related topics to DEI and periodically include other voices within the community.

As the Real Social Change Blog is a community blog, you can submit DEI topics you want to see discussed. If your suggested topic is selected, you can choose to either receive an Icon Connects SWAG bag or a $50 value MARY KAY gift basket!

I’m ecstatic that you will participate in this thought-provoking, informative, and rich educational journey.

Forbes Magazine says that cultivating a diverse employee population where everyone feels able to bring their best selves to work is the right thing to do and is better for business.

I totally agree. Icon Connects, LLC offers DEI Training Programs, which provide culturally responsive, in-depth training on diversity, equity, and inclusivity concepts to businesses, organizations, and institutions.

Let me emphasize that DEI is a journey and not a destination. No one person or organization has all the answers. However, with passion, energy, and the will to do the work, we will be well on our way to diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations.

You are welcome to respond and add comments and suggestions on the blog. For individuals who want to add to the conversation and engage others, your perspectives are welcomed. You can even disagree. However, I moderate comments and will quickly remove offensive, disrespectful, or irrelevant ones.

As this is a public forum, please refrain from posting private information.

I encourage you to browse other areas on the Icon Connects, LLC website and learn about our other services and who we are.

Thank you for subscribing and engaging in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion discussion. Together, we can reimagine social justice and build more equitable organizations, leading to a more perfect union, beginning in our local community.
